One of the most beautiful factory palaces, a monumental building with a garden built for Izrael Poznanski. Striking interiors with a huge ballroom at the head. A piece of Łódź history, I recommend it!

Izrael Kalmanowicz Poznański Palace, called the "Łódź Louvre", is the largest factory residence in Poland and an extremely interesting place on the map of Łódź. The neo-baroque building occupies the entire corner of ulica Zachodnia and Ogrodowa, at which the huge walls of the former Poznański's factory rise (today the largest cultural and entertainment and commercial center in Europe - Manufaktura) and workers' houses. The eclectic palace was built in the eighties and nineties of the nineteenth century, and the authors of subsequent projects were Juliusz Jung, Hilary Majewski, Dawid Rosenthal, and Adolf Zeligson. The palace served the Poznański family briefly, and the founder himself died before the construction was completed. In the interwar period, the building was rebuilt and offices were located there. It was not until the 1970s that the building was recognized as a valuable monument. Today it houses the Museum of the History of the City of Łódź, balls and artistic events take place. A historic, Art Nouveau staircase leads straight to the huge dining room, lounges and ballroom, where wall paintings, stained glass, stucco and fireplaces have survived. Visiting the amazing richness and decorativeness of the interior, you can learn about the history and culture of the nineteenth-century Lodz, learn about the phenomenon of a multicultural and multi-faith industrial metropolis. The permanent exhibition "The Pantheon of Greater Lodzians" introduces the figures of eminent artists associated with the city: Władysław Reymont, Julian Tuwim, Jerzy Kosiński, Artur Dedecius, as well as Artur Rubinstein and Alexander Tansman. A gallery of contemporary sculptures is worth seeing in the well-tended palace garden.

The City of Łódź Museum is a cultural institution that collects historic objects from many areas of social life, history, culture and art of the city and its inhabitants. They are presented at the headquarters of the museum - one of the most magnificent buildings in Łódź - the former Izrael Poznanski Palace. The interiors of this monumental residence - with a typical Neo-style character of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries combined with Art Nouveau detail - have been recreated in accordance with their original purpose. Thanks to the partially preserved original equipment and decor, they perform an exhibition and functional role. The Museum of the City of Lodz also conducts typical museum activities: it organizes exhibitions, readings, meetings with authors, concerts and scientific sessions. The museum has unique memorabilia of the life and work of the composer Alexander Tansman, political and social activist Marek Edelman, translator Karl Dedecius, writer Władysław Reymont and poet Julian Tuwim. There is also a Music Gallery named after Artur Rubinstein, which presents the only collection of souvenirs from the world-famous virtuoso.

A lot about Jewish culture, but not only. A very interesting place. You can learn a lot. I will gladly go there again.
