It’s a museum-branch of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Place worth a visit as a history lesson of harbour industry and medieval sea economy. A.D 1444. It was the largest harbour crane in medieval Europe. Without an induction motor, of course! How did this device work...? There were two large wooden rotary wheels inside. Dockers were going circle inside like hamsters. Contrary to appearances, the strength of the mechanical transmission did not cause quite hard work. Gdansk joined to the Hanseatic League in 1361. The Hanseatic League period was like a ‘golden age’ for medieval Gdansk. The harbour as ‘a window to the world’ and appropriate tax law began to accelerate the medieval city economy. I visited museum-branch of the National Maritime Museum in September 2015. My recommendation.

hell of a place. gdansk is an absolutely stunning city and a must-see when you're in poland. edit from august of 2019: this place is even more beautiful than i thought it was, definetely one of the most beautiful cities in central/eastern europe the reviews all around the globe definetely speak volumes! there are plenty of articles glorifying the beauty of subtlety of gdansk which you need to see - amongst many of them you definitely will choose the ones that describe your needs the best! edit 2020: still kept on with development, come and visit it at least once in your lifetime, YOU WONT REGRET IT
