The Gothic Church of St. Jakub stands on the eastern side of the market square. It was erected in the mid-thirteenth century, rebuilt after the fire of 1300. It is a former temple of the Dominican monastery, brought here in the 30s of the 13th century. Their prior was Wincenty of Kielcza, the alleged author of the lost chronicle used by Jan Długosz. Wincenty wrote in it the famous sentence "go up sho us steel" (a misfortune happened to us), which Prince Henry the Pious said at the sight of the defeat of his army at the sight of the defeat of his troops (researchers believe that he did it in Racibórz). As Henry's words are older than the famous "Give, ać I get and you rest" from the Book of Henryków (1241), our mother tongue was recorded in writing for the first time in Upper Silesia. It is worth being in the place where it happened (unfortunately, the interior of the church can only be seen through the decorative grille). The most valuable element of the church is the tomb chapel of the Counts von Gaschin.

Beautiful and charming place, just a pity that it is closed almost all the time

Amazing place. I recommend it to everyone visiting Racibórz.

A beautiful historic church in the center of Racibórz. It is a pity that the interior can be viewed through decorative bars. Open during the services.
