In Matcze, the Orthodox church was from 1476, after the union of Brzeg - Uniate. In 1700 a new temple of this religion was erected in the village; in 1875 the faithful were forced to accept the Orthodox Church (liquidation of the Uniate diocese of Chełm). In 1911, regardless of the older church, a new temple was established. In the interwar period, it was the seat of a full-time Orthodox parish, while the Potemkin's office in the 1920s was relegated to the Catholic Church. The older Orthodox church was destroyed during World War II, younger - in 1956. On the site of the church in 1983, the church of St. Joseph.
