A beautifully restored Orthodox church from the 19th century.

The first temple in Sosnowica was the Orthodox church of the Protection of the Mother of God, built in 1522-1544. A similar one, built of pine logs, but already on a rock foundation, was erected after the introduction of the Brest Union. Under the date of May 5, 1598, we find in the archives the foundation act and salary of the church in Sosnowiec, written by Wincent Krasiński, court writer Zygmunt III Waza. A belfry was built next to the church, also made of wood and covered with shingles. At the temple and several dozen meters south of it, there were two cemeteries. Later, the Uniate period began in the history of Sosnowica. While the Kościuszko, Napoleonic and November uprisings did not leave more permanent traces in the history of Sosnowica, the January Uprising influenced the fate of its inhabitants. On March 14, 1863, one of the victorious battles for Sosnowica took place for the insurgents. It is worth emphasizing that the initiators - as well as the most numerous victims of the uprising in this area - were Eastern Rite worshipers. This is clearly seen on the example of the history of the parish in Sosnowica, which definitely declined. The condition of the parish church in the mid-1870s was described as "dramatically miserable". From the material demolished in 1890, the church of the Protection of the Mother of God was made of the same name at the local cemetery, and a stone temple was erected in place of the old temple in honor of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. Brick, currently existing church, was designed by prof. Wiktor Iwanowicza Syczugów, and built - by the construction company Moczanów from Daugavpils in the years 1891-1893. The cornerstone was laid on July 14, 1891, and three parish choirs from Lejno, Sosnowica and Wołoskowola took part in the ceremony. Antymins dedicated the church to the bishop of Chełm and Warsaw Flavian Horodecki. The new temple was consecrated by the Lublin Bishop Gedeon Pokrowski on May 1, 1894. During this period, the full-time parish clergy were Fr. Mikołaj Romanow and psalmist Bartłomiej Cybulski. About half a year before the church was consecrated, the parish had 2,418 faithful, who attended the temple from eight villages, located within 10 km. In the years 1905 and 1908-1910 there were renovations of the temple, which performed, among others Leonid Dąbrowski from Kowel and Paweł Chodacki from Świerż. From July 1915 to April 1918, the church was closed. After the wars, recoveries and liquidation actions, 500 people of Orthodox religion remained in Sosnowica (data from the end of 1946). Until 1947, the Sosnowice parish church belonged to the Warsaw-Chełm diocese (during the Second World War: Chełm-Podlasie). The "Wisła" campaign depopulated this parish. In the 1950s, the church served as a district warehouse. The temple's equipment was devastated. Religious life, after a period of war and persecution, priests Włodzimierz Chodak and Mitrofan Budźko renew around Sosnowica. Since the reactivation of the Orthodox Diocese of Lublin-Chełm in 1989, the church in Sosnowica has been a branch of the parish in Horostyt. The church block was renovated; roofing was made.
