14th century collegiate church St. Jadwiga is the family mausoleum of the Brest Piasts - rulers descending in a straight line from Piast, and through St. Jadwiga - from Charlemagne. It is estimated that at least 43 representatives of this dynasty were buried here. The remains of the rulers who were buried in wooden coffins directly in the ground did not survive. Later, copper or tin sarcophagi began to be used, which were placed in the crypts. Of the 22 sarcophagi preserved to this day, 14 of the most valuable have undergone conservation. It is worth seeing these 16th-century and 17th-century monuments, because they are the most beautiful collection of sepulchral art in Europe. On November 25, 1989, with the participation of Cardinal Henryk Gulbinowicz, a second burial of the Piast ashes took place in the church, combined with the re-consecration of the temple
