The name of the village of Żerczyce probably comes from the old Slavic word "żrec", meaning the place of worship. The first mentioned village called Żerdczyce was most likely the outpost of a knight's team to defend Mielnik. The battle of the Kiev Prince with Yotvingians is also recorded in the history of the town. From this period, the preserved mound, which according to the message is the grave of the incinerated remains of the Yotvingian knights who died during this battle. Researchers of the region's history date the first Orthodox church in today's Zerczyce for 1001, during the reign of the Russian prince Włodzimierz. The cities of Mielnik and Drohiczyn also come from that time. The first documented object was a temple from the 17th century, which was most probably replaced by the existing one, and the material from its demolition was used to build the cemetery church. Orthodox church sw.Dymitra from Thessaloniki (Sołuński) comes from 1869-71. Created by Leonard Krzyżanowski's project. Destroyed during World War II, it was carefully rebuilt. It is a brick building with the main body on a square plan (oriented). The vestibule from the west side is preceded by a square porch, over which an octagonal tower has been added, a roofed dome and an onion-shaped dome. Eclectic iconostasis.

A typical object in these areas, it is impossible to pass by indifferently.

The temple was built in the years 1869-1871, which survived until the fire in 1944. Currently existing church was created after the Second World War and is a copy of the previous building.
