The church in Żelazna, in written sources, is mentioned for the first time in 1274 and in "Die Rechnung ..." - the register of the Holy Father in the Archdeacon of Opole from 1447. The temple in Żelazna was established at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries and is one of the first stone temples in the Opole region. The original temple was small, measuring 6 x 6 m (today's presbytery). The original decor of the church has a fresco from the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries depicting the Mother of God with her son. This painting was accidentally discovered during the expansion of the church. The fresco was walled up for centuries, today it is the most valuable monument of Żelazna. In the church on the eastern wall of the presbytery, an arcaded window has been preserved, and above the presbytery a cross-barrel vault probably dating from the 17th century. The interior of the temple is also decorated with: main altar from the 18th century, right side baroque altar from the beginning of the 18th century, left side altar from the second half of the 18th century, baroque pulpit from around 1700, baroque baptismal font from the early 18th century. In 1682 a tower was added to the temple. The church received its current shape in 1924-1926, when it was expanded by the efforts of the residents and then priest Ryszard Woitok. The only thing left from the original temple was the presbytery with its gothic sacristy.
