The hospital complex, built in 1929 by the Germans, served the Wermacht. After the Second World War, it was taken over by the Soviet army. Set in a quiet forest, the huge hospital could accommodate 650 patients, but usually not even half of the beds were used. A dozen or so buildings were located in the area tightly separated by a high concrete wall. The largest of them is a three-story building over 250 meters. Inside, one has the impression that the corridors, the end of which cannot be seen, are endless, and the hundreds of rooms and nooks surrounding us make us feel lost. This impression is intensified by very spacious cellars filled with darkness. The whole is emphasized by amazing silence. There were several departments here, from, for example, surgery, psychiatry, orthopedics to the infectious diseases ward, as well as operating rooms. In its heyday, it was a very well-equipped facility with modern equipment for those times. Additionally, there were several other buildings as well. Children's ward, pharmacy, kitchen, canteen, conference room, shop, cinema and quite a large swimming pool. In a small building there was a hospital chapel, at the back there was a dissecting room filled with a specific smell, in which a cold store for storing bodies makes a terrifying impression and a room with a table for autopsy.
