The Monument to the Victims of December 1970 is located on the square between Aleja Solidarności and Janek Wiśniewski (in the vicinity of the SKM Gdynia Stocznia stop). It presents the date 1970 made of stainless steel - the number 7 resembles a man falling on his face with his back carved with bullets. There is an inscription on the monument: "Killed on December 17, 1970". The author is Stanisław Gierad. The monument was erected in a record time of 40 days. The unveiling ceremony took place on December 17, 1980. The monument commemorates the victims of clashes between protesting workers and the militia and the army in December 1970. Lots of people pass it every day on their way to work to Gdynia Shipyard and Gdynia Port.
