The monument commemorates the Battle of Brdów on April 29, 1863, the commander of the French unit, Col. Leo Joung de Blankenheim and the January Insurgents who took part in it. The monument does not stand at the site of the battle. The first monument was there. It was destroyed during World War II by the occupant. The present monument was placed closer to the road in 1958, on the 95th anniversary of the battle. It is made of gray granite. Originally there was an eagle taking flight on its top. It was changed by the then authorities of the Polish People's Republic. At the monument in 1993, on the 130th anniversary of the battle, an oak cross was erected. There is a parking lot next to the obelisk.
