Paulini came to Leśna in the middle of the 18th century. They were entrusted with the parish of Lešnia and took care of the miraculous image. In the 18th century the village was already known in the Polish Crown as a center of Marian devotion. During the period of the Napoleonic partitions and wars, the sanctuary shared the fate of the nation. The monastery and church were destroyed and plundered. Paulinski convent did not cease to function only thanks to the help of local landowners. During the January Uprising, Leśna was one of the links in the national movement in Podlasie. The Paulines supported the insurgents. The tsarist authorities took revenge and took over the sanctuary and turned it into an Orthodox church. After regaining independence, the Paulites returned to the sanctuary. After a long search in 1926, a painting hidden by the Benedictine nuns in Łomża was found.
