Żarnów is a thousand-year-old town (at least), one of the oldest in Poland. What today is Opoczno County and Konecki County (or "Ziemia Odrowąż", once had its center in Żarnów. The former castellan castle no longer exists, the church (from 1903) is more than 800 years old, is considered Romanesque (but only a small fragment has survived from the old one), and in fact it is neo-Romanesque, it was completely rebuilt only a hundred years ago . The founder of (the old part) was Bolesław Krzywousty (the one from the division of Poland into districts). A fragment of the old western Romanesque wall has been beautifully preserved. The church is situated on a hill, halfway between the market square and the mysterious "settlement" (called here "Swedish Mountain"). The advantage of this location is that every day thousands of people see it driving on the Kielce - Piotrków route, but the same is a disadvantage, because the transit traffic in the center is unbearable until the walls crack. And what are the funerals like - it's 800 m from the church to the cemetery, along the route 74 - hmmm .... The wall surrounding the bank of the church is starting to bulge towards the road, they should do something about it. The patron saint of the church in Żarnów is St. Mikołaj, yes, that Mikołaj (same as in Libiszów)

A beautiful building. It is worth stopping for a moment .... The old belfry is impressive.

A neo-Gothic church with a 12th-century temple as part of the transept. Hidden Romanism :)
