An unmarked attraction well worth a visit with a very friendly guide for a small fee

Crypts under the Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary The remains of the 13th-century church from the times of Daniel Romanowicz, including the remains of clergy, including Uniate bishops, including Porfiriusz Skarbek-Ważyński, Tadeusz Kościuszko's trusted friend. The Crypt complex under the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Chełm was made available to the first visitors in 2018. They are located in the central and eastern parts, under the transept, chancel and sacristy, dating back to the 18th century. Some of the older crypts and foundations of the 12th-century church were used for their construction. The crypts that are still under restoration work will be fully handed over to visitors probably in 2020. The aim of the work is to show the funeral rite with graves from the early Middle Ages to the modern times of the 17th century. (based on the description of the crypts prepared by Stanisław Golub)
