An excellent museum focussing on a subject about which we had previously known nothing. Follow the history of the old sardine fishing and canning I dustry of Portimao. I would very strongly suggest one watches the old 1940s era film before walking around the exhibits as it really helps with context. Thoroughly recommend this museum for a family (or adult) hour well-spent.

Dinky museum dedicated to the history of the area from pre-Roman times to the hayday of the canning industry. The film is particularly interesting; it's a bit like a slightly camp version of How It's Made. The downstairs bit with the artificial reef is very cool (a bit claustrophobic but cool nonetheless). Free on Sunday mornings is helpful too.
