I'm a bit troubled about this marketplace. Back in the days; About 30 years ago I could not get away from this kind of terrain, at that time it was mainly the livestock that interested me as a young boy, in addition to of course the items that you could buy for agriculture, livestock and home cooking. We go there every time, but nowadays, 'week' when my mind has become as an elder, I don't like the animals that are lined up in cages and in the heat of blood. Now, of course, you always have to put your own perspective in the right way. We are of course doing very badly in Northwest Europe with regard to animal welfare, given the export of millions of animals around the world, the closed nature and invisibility of the cultivation of our meat (with far too many animals in a pen and to slaughter within 8 weeks) , the use of antibiotics and so on. So when I went to this market area, also to avoid as much as possible ´Bermuda and Guiris flip flops´ (something that requires careful planning on the Algarve ... so the covered market halls were really not an option) I was mentally already prepared for 'animal' degrading situations and I must say: it was really not that bad afterwards. However, this place is not suitable for the 'normal' tourist from the north of Europe, but if you do not consider yourself to fall under that group, the open-air market that is organized there is worthwhile. Nice and dusty, messy, gypsies everywhere, colorful, noisy, cheap, mountains of spices, varied, Portuguese, yes, in that area you really are in a different world.
