Almendres Cromlech

I think this site should be better protected against vandalism. This was my second visit but I didn't remember having to drive 5km on unpaved roads. It's a bumpy ride, but totally worth it.

An amazing place off the beaten track but well worth a visit. These stones are a haunting reminder of our distant ancestors. How did they place them and why? These are the questions we all ask and when standing in the presence of these stones and I always feel a distinct sense of peace and mystery when visiting these places in Portugal and my homeland of Ireland. Interesting site. However, bare in mind to drive all the way up there with the car. There is a dedicated car parking just 200 meters in front of the stones. The road to the parking lot is a three kilometer bumpy dust road. Our Seat Ibiza didn't struggle, but sometimes there were quite some gaps and it required a bit of skills, at least. Worth the stop

Amazing neolithic site. These rocks were "placed" anywhere from 4 to 6 thousand years ago! A bit out of the way down a bumpy dirt road but well worth the visit!!

Very very intresting place. We were here in 2015 and it's really amazing that such place are still here. It was really serene. One other couple was there at that moment too.
