Museu da Luz

A good museum to have an idea how all the process of building the dam and moving a small the village happened! The video goes way too much on superficial details and its too long, specially with all demands on this pandemic!

Absolutely facinating images, film and displays of an Alentejo village which was rebuilt in its entirity when the Alqueva Dam project started. How could anyone not be moved by the stories of the villagers who had to leave their homes and attached memories to relocate 3km away to a new home? Beautifully presented with all all displays in both Portuguese and English. A must see if you're in area.

Very moving story of the resiting of a town that was in the way of a huge reservoir. Whilst the residents were rehoused in newer dwellings, their culture seems to have been lost to a museum. Well worth the visit.

Sadly it was Monday and the museum is closed. As were making our way around Alqueva, we didn´t return.

History lesson with a view of both sides of the spectrum. Some winners and also losers.
