One of the oldest cemeteries in St. Petersburg, founded in 1772. The cemetery was intended for the burial of Lutherans, who at that time constituted a significant part of the population of St. Petersburg. Community Petrikirhe seriously approached the organization of funeral affairs. The cemetery was divided into lines and ranks, the burial in which differed in price. All the graves were numbered and registered, all graves and monuments were noted, a detailed archive was entered. In addition, a unique coordinate system was introduced in the cemetery, allowing precise recording of grave sites. Thanks to this, even now it is possible to accurately determine the burial place of at least 40 000 people according to the surviving documentation, which is currently stored in the Central State Historical Archives of St. Petersburg. Books of burial include records from 1820 to 1935. After wandering around the cemetery, you can find a huge mass of ancient burials, which are an indisputable part of the history of architecture. Just walking between the graves, look carefully at your feet - what looks like an ordinary stone, it may well be an ancient tombstone
