Levashovo Memorial Cemetery

Sad yet necessary site. People need to know the history so they would not repeat it. Heard about about it a year ago and put it on top of the list of places to visit in St.-Petersburg area. The site itself is not huge but you can spend an hour there if you take your time. The site is well taken care of. And pathways are clean. I wish parking lot was more spacious.

I learned about this memorial 9 years ago, as a result of the search for my missing great-grandfather. 5 years in Stalin's camps, and a year and a half after his return, the same NKVD troika was sentenced to death. The verdict was carried out. and many years later, the great-grandfather was rehabilitated. His remains rest here, along with thousands and thousands of others like him without the wine victims of terror. When we drove here with my mother for the first time, all the way I thought that for him THIS road was ONE END ... it is not enough to say that it is impossible to be here without tears, even to write ... Why, after 30 years of removing the SECRET from this place, still few people know about it? THIS IS OUR STORY !!! and no matter what it was, we must not forget it, or even more so cover it !!!!!

But a year ago, I only found out about this place and immediately wanted to go there. And I would advise everyone to do it. Just to give an hour of your time to all these people ... The place itself is quiet, well-groomed, calm. Only the awareness of what happened makes its way. You need to think about it, remember and talk about it. And not to be silent, allowing the memory of millions of innocent people to be erased. And I would suggest that everyone, besides laying flowers at the memorials of soldiers during the "Victory Parade", bring a couple of carnations to this "monument". And put them on some grave.

Previously, this place was closed and was called "Pargolovskaya Dacha." Now here, in the territory enclosed by a green fence, there is the Levashovsk Memorial Cemetery, which appeared on the site of the mass graves of people shot in 1937-38, and according to data from the network about 40 thousand people were shot here !!!!!! ! There are a lot of clergymen, the names of women met, the youngest was 18 years old, the oldest 85. Photos are hanging directly on the trees. Commemorative signs of different countries and regions of Russia were established, residents of KTR were executed. It is very quiet here, despite the proximity of the road, there is a rather eerie atmosphere, however, like in all such places, everything went in goosebumps. At the entrance to the territory of the cemetery there is a small house where a woman sits, apparently a caretaker. It was she who opened the door for us in the so-called museum. In fact, this is a small room, an exhibition dedicated to people was organized in KTR, KTR became victims of terrible events that took place here and not only during the Great Terror. The museum has been operating since the 1990s, the exhibits are brought by relatives of the victims. I advise you not to recommend this place to visit.
