There is No English At All. Everything is Russian. But seeing the pictures, I can feel what they want to say. Novgorod was once Hanseatic hub in Moscow, and it was described as 'Window to Europe' at that time.(I am exchange student of Saint-Petersburg, and it was quite interesting to hear that). On the first floor, there are some ruins, things that are historical. We can see how they lived, what was the territory, and how they prospered. And there are ruins that say they were Hanseatic hub. Interesting. On the 2nd floor, we can see Icon(Икон). According to explanation, because Novgorod was not conquered by Mongolian invasion, there are lots of pieces made in since 11th century(?). And there is also some pieces that portrayed World War 2. For student, it is 180rubs on the board explanation. But they demaned 120rubs to me. I don't know why but maybe it was holiday(?)...

We went to the Novgorod Museum-Reserve purposefully to the exhibition "Shine of Steel. Artistic Weapons of the 18-20th Centuries" from the collections of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum. Located in the central building of the museum. Where large lions from the Arakcheev estate stand at the entrance. The exposition includes guns. pistols, swords, sabers, checkers, knives from the 18th - early 20th centuries. There are also several paintings depicting the figures of cavalrymen (there is Nicholas the First on horseback), and several hours in the form of sculptural compositions made of metal. All or almost all of the items exhibited came to the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum from the noble estates of the Khrapovitsky, Tregubovs, Vorontsov-Dashkovs and from the Vladimir province Cheka (!) In 1920-1921. That is, to put it simply, all these things were forcibly stolen from their owners, and most of the owners were probably generally shot or imprisoned. And now, by the century, so to speak, they decided to remember. The exhibition is small and occupies only two halls. The entrance to it is general, like to a museum, and costs the same. I can't say what it is exciting, but it is curious, and for gun lovers it will probably be interesting. There, for example, there are such guns - blunderbuss - with an expanding barrel, that is, the barrel is like a pipe or a bell on a children's bicycle. I once thought that such guns were entirely invented and found only in the cinema in fantasy fairy tales, but it turned out that this is not so. In general, such an exhibition of captured or taken away from the former owners with an unenviable fate of captured weapons. In general, the museum (its main building) has several expositions and exhibitions. Now there are exhibitions "Russian Icon" (a huge number of ancient icons from Novgorod churches), "Old Russian carved wood" (there are mainly carved crosses and gates in the iconostases of churches), "Evolution of power" (an exhibition of coins and seals of ancient times (princely) and up to Peter the Great inclusive). All these exhibitions are of interest and for the amateur - someone will be very interested in what not to take away, and someone will die of boredom. There is also an exhibition of axes. Their stories are from antiquity to the 20th century. Well, here it is absolutely not for everybody. There is also an exposition of the history of Novgorod and the Novgorod land, but it has been operating since Soviet times and has not actually changed. I was on it for the first time back in the 80s, when I went to school. It is, of course, high time to change it.

Informative, interesting and visual. You need to lay at least 2.5 hours in order to calmly familiarize yourself with all expositions I pleasantly amazed the hall of icons.

A very substantial museum, striking a variety of exhibits, their consistency. Exposure is well thought out. Despite the abundance of material you do not get tired and do not lose attention. Novgorod archaeological expeditions made it possible to present in detail the whole life of the ancient city, economy, craftsmanship, trade, organization of management. Novgorodians speak with us in the bright language of birch-bark letters: they count the profits, help each other out, curse, master, sing, play chess, flaunt in fashionable outfits. In the halls of the museum there are many visitors.
