Vrovskoye Kladbishche

An old steep cemetery with crypts and the ruins of a very beautiful church-tomb. It's not safe to be in the church, bricks are cracking, it can collapse at any moment (it's already tilted a little to one side)! Historical background: The cemetery on the Vryovka River was formed long before the formation of the city of Luga. It is difficult to say exactly when it was formed, but the storage of 1700 is still preserved in the cemetery. For example, there is the grave of the priest of the Ekaterinensky assembly, Fr. Simeon with an inscription from 1722. The stone church of Vreva was closed in 1917. Seven years later, the temple was handed over to construction companies for dismantling into bricks, but the masonry turned out to be too strong. Even the hard times of war could not turn the temple into shapeless ruins. Former beauty can be traced in the preserved ruins. The church was designed and built as a tomb temple. It was built at the expense of Alexandra Ivanovna Tretyakova, widow of the Luga 2nd guild of the merchant and benefactor A.N. Tretyakov. The church is stone, two-storied, has the shape of a cross in plan, so that its entire upper part rests on the supporting arches. Outside, the decorative appearance of the temple was achieved by the contrast of white plastered surfaces and ornamental details of red brick. The tomb of the Tretyakovs was built in the basement floor.
