Literatorskiye Mostki - Muzeynyy Nekropol'

Famous cemetery, the most famous persons resting here are Dimitri Mendeleev and Ivan Pavlov.

This part of Volkovskoje cemetery is known as a kind of memorial for a group of Russian poets and writers of the begining of XX century, so called "Silver Age" of Russian literature. In fact there're a lot of different famous people from differents periods burried here: poet A. A. Blok, satiric writer M. Y. Saltykov-Shchedrin, lady-terrorist V. I. Zasulich, historian professor N. I. Kostomarov, physicist A. F. Ioffe, athropologist N. N. Miklouho-Maclay and dozens of others. The place is not tourist-friendly: lack of signs and other things but a great place of interest. Thuesday is a day off.

To see the resting place of many great people in their deeds, to worship their ashes. Beautiful temple but only open on Sundays. There is a legend that if you come to this shop at night, you can see someone sitting on it in thought. Who is lucky - Blok, Mendeleev, Bekhterev, and maybe Vaganov ...

The necropolis is located in the northern part of the Volkovsky cemetery. It stretches around the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, built in the early 1780s. There are about 500 tombstones at Literatorskie Mostki. of significant historical and artistic interest. At different times, prominent figures of science, culture and art were buried in this memorial cemetery. There is also the grave of Maria Ulyanova. Unfortunately, many of the monuments are in extremely poor condition.

Unfortunately, I did not find the graves of Saltykov-Shchedrin and Leonid Andreev the first time. And so, the impressions are very strong, of course.
