Slow to process passports and visas, but quick to receive people deported back to El Salvador. As with a lot of bureaucracy in Latin American countries, money makes things move faster. When I was there they closed early because a delegation from the U.S. showed up.

The General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners is a government institution responsible for issuing passports (mainly) and other procedures concerning the reception and monitoring of foreigners in the country. This state agency also keeps a detailed record of the stay of foreign residents.

They attend only by appointment, but do not answer the phone.
