Overall the place is whitewashed in more ways than one. Notice how locals do not allow Jesus inside the chapel! Notice how a Tunisian flag in at the apex where you eye is drawn looking for Jesus. Every wall is white with no depiction of any story to tell, very strange for a Christian or Catholic site. I think it communicates a lot about the tolerance Islam has for any other faith.

A chapel built in place of the ancient chapel where St. Augustine asked His Mother; st. Monica with his son and a concubine to wait. Augustine deceived his mum and fled with his friends to Rome. On realising the trick, Monica wept for Her son. This chapel is named The Tears of Monica. The chapel of the tears of a loving mother for her child/ren. The recent chapel was rebuilt in 1886 by cardinal Lavigerie. He built a convent and an orphanage for young girls. Its interesting to note that the first foundation stone for this beautiful chapel came from the minor basilica where sSS perpetual and Felicity were buried. This chapel became also the center for Perpetual Adoration Since 4 may 1895. At 1932 the chapel was about 500 years already. Today this church retains its beauty and history. Very beautiful stain glasses of St. Monica , Augustine , Cyprian and more. Its not longer used for worship but it is a collage hall today. This chapel means a lot to the Christian faith.

A beautiful catholic chapel in a country full of mosques - when I'll go there I'll add a lot of other photos, for sure...

Long live the Mediterranean breeze ... Paolo Coelho should have talked about this place in "the alchemist"
