Great location to discover Roman History in Tunisia. French and English tours available for about 20-25 dinar pp on site. Definitely worth the two hour ride from Tunis. The surroundings are also beautiful. Take note that in the weekend of 3 april the location was closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Unclear when the site will be reopened.

A truly fascinating location of an ancient Roman city left abandoned. Many buildings are still standing and our local tour guide was a wealth of knowledge explaining each building of note and their use. The location had little to no tourists and our visit was pre-pandemic. It was about 90 mins from Tunis and it was worth the trip through the countryside to see this historic location. I would recommend visiting this location.

The current name of Dougga comes from the Latin name Thugga that’s also derived from the Tamazight name Tukka which means rocky mountain. It’s important to know the rich history of this place, I’m amazed

Dougga's history is best known from the time of the Roman conquest, even though numerous pre-Roman monuments, including a necropolis, a mausoleum, and several temples have been discovered during archaeological digs. These monuments are an indication of the site's importance before the arrival of the Romans
