A mosque with a very beautiful and soulful drive you into the depths of history ...
Prof.Dr.Metin DIĞRAK (08/25/2020)
It is in the city center of Kayseri, next to the Grand Bazaar. Although it is known as Ulu Mosque, it is also known as Cami-i Kebir or Sultan Mosque in various sources. It was built by the Danishmend ruler Melik Mehmet Gazi on H.530 / M.1135. The inscription next to the mosque's door opening to the north is a repair inscription. Yağıbasanoğlu, one of the nephews of Melik Mehmet Gazi, was repaired by Muzaffereddin Mahmud in 1206. Atsuz Elti Hatun, the daughter of the same person, had the Gülük Mosque repaired in the same period. The repair inscription, which is the only inscription that the monument carries today, was placed on the outer face of the north wall near the door. The following statements are included in the repair inscription: "This mosque was repaired by Yağıbasanoğlu, Muzaffereddin Mahmud in H.602 / AD.1206 during the period of the great Sultan Keyhusrev, son of Kılıçaslan." "Worth seeing for a peaceful worship"

Both the ancestor and the grandfather were nailed like nails to keep the heirloom standing in the middle of the city! Trust that expresses value in every sense .. I miss the days when my Lord was full and overflowing to the bazaar as I was in my childhood, let him not miss his true worshipers.

The mosque was built by the ruler of Danişment Melik Mehmet Gazi on Hijri in 530/1135 AD. The inscription next to the north-opening door of the mosque is a repair inscription. Yağıbasanoğlu, one of Melik Mehmet Gazi's nephews, was repaired by Muzaffereddin Mahmud in 1206. The Ulu Mosque was damaged by the great earthquake of 1716 and repaired by Matbah-ı Amire Emini (chef of the palace) Hacı Halil Efendi from Kayseri after 5-6 years of inactivity. During this repair, the collapsed cone part of the minaret was also renewed and the collapsed dome and minarets were repaired. This visit was part of the daily program of August 18, 2020, which we described in detail with photos in the "Travel Report Round Trip Kayseri".
