Located in the city center of Karaman, Hatuniye Madrasa was built in 1382 by Nefise Sultan, the daughter of Ottoman Sultan Murat Hüdavendigar and wife of Karamanoğlu Alaaddin Bey. The madrasa has an open courtyard and a single iwan. The courtyard of the madrasa is surrounded by porticoes and there are student cells on the east and west facades. Cut stone was used as a building material in the madrasa. Ornamentation in the building is concentrated in the crown door, the iwan arch, and the entrances of the corner rooms. In addition to geometric motifs in ornaments, plant motifs, rumi and palmettes, writing and sashes constitute the main scheme.

I think it is like the Aktekke Mosque complex. It is a little further, next to the museum. The room was restored, generally closed like many madrasas. I think it is permanently closed, not for the pandemic. I saw too many madrasas, all of them were closed. The mosque was in the transformed museum as it was closed. The stone madrasa in Afyon is just like an office building. It is an extremely solid, historical building with very good entrance door carving.

It was one of the places I was particularly curious about in Karaman, but I guess it was closed due to Covid. I would like his surroundings to be kept more attentive and clean even if it is closed. The madrasah, which looks great from the outside and keeps the history alive with its handcrafted works, fascinated me. I hope we can see inside as soon as possible.

The entrance door, which is one of the masterpieces of the Seljuk period, symbolizes the fine architectural structure of that period and the importance they gave to education, culture, architecture with fine marble engravings, cuneiform arabic inscriptions and 6-pointed star patterns that symbolize the Seljuk Empire. has been dedicated to.

One of the beautiful works showing the history of Karaman, especially the handwork on the door part, fascinates people .. I guess it was closed due to the pandemic, but if you are in the region you must definitely visit and see it is already in a central location.
