Iotape is 33 kilometers east of Alanya, on the road to Gazipaşa, on the Mediterranean coast. Iotape, a Cilician coastal city, is named after M.S. The King of Commagene IV, who lived between 38-72. He comes from Antiochus' wife Iotape.nIn ancient times, from the Roman Emperors Trajan to Valerian, the city minted coins in its own name. A high promontory extending towards the sea is the acropolis of the city. Waters give the image of a castle to this part. The buildings of the city have been destroyed to a great extent. There is Liman Caddesi in the valley where the acropolis connects to the land. It is understood from the pedestals that there are crepis consisting of three steps on both sides of the street and there are sculptures in between. The inscriptions on the sculptures speak of the city's successful athletes and benevolent people. There is a rectangular basilica with three naves in the bay to the east of the acropolis. In the ruins of the small church with a single nave in the city, there are traces of frescoes depicting Hagios Georgios Stratelates.nThe most prominent structure of the city that can survive is the bathhouse. The sewerage system of the bath has been preserved until today. Today, there is a temple ruin of 8 meters by 12.5 meters to the south of the Antalya-Mersin highway that passes through the middle of the ancient city. In the necropolis on the eastern and northern hills of the city, there are small tombs covered with vaults as well as monumental tombs. The ridges of the city, which is a protected area, are under the threat of dense housing due to its beautiful scenery.nIotape (Aytap) is entered free of charge to the ruins of the city and can be visited in about two hours. The small bay with the ruins of the ancient port is frequented by the gulets departing from Alanya, especially in the summer months. There is also a beach where you can swim in the south of the ancient city.
