Considering the history and richness of artifacts in Ereğli and its surroundings, the construction of the museum building started in 1967 and the museum was opened in 1968. It was repaired in 1980 and a separate warehouse building was added. There are two separate exhibition halls, Archeology and Ethnography, in the single-storey museum building. Approximately five hundred artifacts are exhibited in five different showcases in chronological order in the archeology hall. In the showcase number one, artifacts (vessels, stone tools, obsidians, seals, etc.) found in Ereğli and its surroundings from the Neolithic Period to the Late Hittite Period are displayed. In the showcase number two, there are artifacts (belonging to the Hellenistic period) and sculptures and figurines from the Roman period found at the end of the excavations made in 1974 in the Göztepe tumulus in Göztepe. In addition, the oil lamps that constitute our subject of work are also exhibited in this showcase. 40 km from Ereğli in showcase number three. The artifacts found in the carved underground cities excavations, Byzantine period artifacts and glass unguantariums are exhibited. The fourth showcase in the archeology hall has been arranged as a coin showcase. The coins are exhibited by separating them according to their periods. In the fifth showcase, 17 km from Ereğli. In the works carried out in the sand quarries in Zengen, a town away from the city, fragments belonging to the mammoth fossil, which were discovered by accident by being stuck to a ladle, are exhibited. There are two showcases in the Ethnography Hall, where approximately one hundred and fifty works are exhibited. In the showcases, local clothes, jewelry, copper plates and a manuscript of the Holy Quran are displayed. In the garden display; There are tomb steles, columns, capitals, stone mills and jars.

My advice to my fellow townsmen who are from Ereğli who do not go to the museum is to go and see them as soon as possible.
