Story writer Sait Faik was commemorated on the 58th anniversary of his death with a statue erected in his memory in Burgazada. The new statue, which was prepared in memory of the author, was erected in the pier square in Burgazadası where Sait Faik Abasıyanık spent most of his life. (May 12, 2012)nnThe work prepared by sculptor Çağdaş Erçelik was opened by the sculptor at the event organized by the Culture and Art Coordinator of the Municipality of Adalar.nnWho is Sait Faik?nnBorn in Adapazarı on November 23, 1906, his family moved to Istanbul after the War of Independence and he continued his education in Istanbul Sultanisi, where he began writing poetry.nnHe studied at the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University and went to Lausanne to study economics. He then lived in France for three years. He returned to Istanbul in 1933, abandoning his studies.nnHe worked as a teacher at Halıcıoğlu Armenian Orphan School for a short time and then did not work at all. He spent his life in Şiş and Burgazadası.nnHis first story, Kites, was published on December 9, 1929 in the daily Milliyet. Between 1934 and 1940, his stories were published in the magazines Being, Wood, Servet-i Fünun Awakening, Sound, New Sound, Leaf and Innovation.nnAmong the best known poems, novels and short stories, Lüzüz Adam, Mahalle Kahvesi, Bulut Kumpanya in the Air, Son Birds and A Snake in Alemdağ.nnAfter his death on May 11, 1954, his house in Burgazada was turned into a museum.
