Taipei Tianhou Temple

Fascinating well kept traditional temple settled amongst modern buildings. Exceptional craftsmanship in the sculptures and buildings themselves.

Looks like a regular store front from the street, but is a really charming temple once you enter. Relatively quiet and not very touristic, which means you get a rather authentic glance at local religion in Taipei here. Worships Mazu (媽祖), probably the most popular deity in Taiwan. This temple is not over 270 years old, as advertised on Google maps, but was relocated here during the Japanese period about one hundred years ago.

Do drop by the old historical temple which is more than 250 years old, if you're around the XiMenDing shopping district. It is definitely more than what you will see from the outside!
