Bank is great if you never leave Taiwan.nSomething to known(Most tellers aren't aware for foreign customers.)n1. Once your ARC expires, your ATM card will not work outside of Taiwan.nnWhy I'm so disgruntled...nBecause at the last minute I was notified my ATM card would not work once I left Taiwan, I made out a bank check for $1000 USD for my brother (was hoping he would have the money for me by the time I arrived in the US).nnBy accident, I threw out the check with other papers on the way to the airport. The check is gone and cannot be recovered. I am now in the USA and will not be returning to Taiwan. In this situation, the bankers do not know how to proceed and continue making up policies because they don't want to deal with it. No one knows the correct policy or what it really is.nn1. I have called this bank branch multiple times.n2. Stopped at the overseas branch of Chinatrust in San Jose, Californian3. Sent a notarized copy a letter offering suggestions on how to resolve the issue with copies of my passport, arc card, Chinatrust ATM card.n4. Sent e-mails to every online representative I could find from Chinatrust.n5. Filed a report with the Taipei City's version of the Better Business Bureau.nnResult:n1. Each time I am given a different answer.nLatest answer was to:n-file a police reportn-wait a yearn-pay a $700 USD feen-stop by this Taiwan branch in personn2. Overseas branch said US Chinatrust has different policies and cannot help me.n3. My suggestions of wiring the money to my US account, reissuing the check and mailing it, or redepositing the check into my Chinatrust account were not acceptable.n4. No emails have been responded to.n5. Last correspondence was entirely in Chinese so a little stumped for the moment (My reading ability is very poor).nnThe check has not been cashed (I asked for it to be cancelled but doubtful that they have even done that.) and Chinatrust still has my money.nnSo, guess I'm out $1000 USD for now and Chinatrust has decided to keep my money.nnI should have went with HSBC.
