Church of the Transfiguration

The Greek-Catholic Church is modern and stylish. The services of God are ruled by day nine in the morning. And on Sunday even two: about the eighth and the tenth.

On April 28, 1989, the Most Holy Father Yuri Fedak was honored on Good Friday by the first public service of the Divine Evening with the shroud, one of the stations in Calvary. The Greek Catholics of Uzhgorod began to worship at Calvary and then descended under the walls of the Transfiguration Church at Brick. The community was registered, whose rector was Father Yuri Fedaka. For more than 18 years, believers have been praying on the streets in the rain and in the cold. In 2007, the chapel of Father Michael Luchkaya was returned to the community. In 2008, authorities handed over the former part of its parochial building to the Greek Catholic community after vacating the accounting department of the Uzhgorod Department of Education. Here, the Greek Catholics organized the original Church of the Transfiguration, whose rector has been since July 15, 2007 and is still Father Vasily Bushko. In 2009, the former lighthouse was restored to the community - the parochial house (built in 1935), where a larger chapel of the Transfiguration was held (worship services were held until December 27, 2014), and in 2011 the territory adjacent to the parish house was returned to it. Due to the fact that the new chapel could not accommodate a large number of congregation members, especially during the temple holiday, it was decided to build a new Greek Catholic Transfiguration Church. And finally, the problem has shifted from a dead point - Greek Catholics have been allocated a site near the old church to build a new temple. On March 30, 2008, on the Sunday of the Cross, thousands of believers marched on the streets of Uzhgorod. The cross, carried by the faithful during the Cross, was erected and consecrated to commence the restoration of the church walls. They also laid the cornerstone of the building, to which the stones of Bethlehem and Mount Tabor were laid. Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Archbishop Ludwig Schick of Bamberg, from Germany, who, along with Bishop Milan, consecrated a cornerstone for the construction of the temple. The author of the project of the new church is architect Peter Sarvashi. The chapel of Father Michael Luchkaya has found its place on the left side of the future temple. On November 11, 2012, the Service of God was conducted by Father Volodymyr Kovtik, Uzhansky Viceroy, with the assistance of Fathers Vasily Bush, Vladislav Zavadsky and Father Marian-Makari Medvid. The rite of consecration of the cross of the main dome of the new temple was sent. On August 19, 2015, on the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, seven years after the foundation of the cornerstone, Bishop Milan consecrated the newly built temple among a large number of believers.
