Dozens of abandoned and abandoned churches in Ukraine. Some of them, especially wooden ones, die quickly, moaning under the lever of time. The stones are still living. Without people, bells, chants and the smell of candles. Without Easter cakes and Christmas carols.
There are temples that have long since disappeared from the maps of religious communities, formally deleted from all books, although marked with monuments. There are temples that have become symbols of some time and in most cases - dramatic and sad.
This is exactly the church of St. Elijah the Prophet in the village of Tsybli in the Pereyaslav region. Skeleton church
The last time I was here was 3 years ago. I planned the trip several times again, but it didn't work out. I planned to visit at all times of the year. Closed spring and summer. Autumn and winter remained. Oh, what a winter landscape here.
What has changed during this time? The floodplain is even more overgrown with reeds. Earlier, the passage to the church was possible only by wading through the water, but now it is even more overgrown. By the way, you have to go to the waist, knees, and in some places to the chest. Among the flooded foundations of houses, bricks, broken kitchen utensils and human bones. Yes Yes. There are many of them and you can even see human skulls.
The second option is to swim in a boat out of the water, which will open an unusual view of the church. A solid hole in the facade is like an open gate. Some windows still have wooden frames. Wrought iron loops protrude from the north wall.
Miraculously, the surviving walls of the temple are destroyed by the water and wind of the Kaniv Reservoir. The roots of trees and shrubs will be drilled from below. Century-old bricks, well-baked, still somehow resist, but whole blocks fall in blocks.
It is unlikely that the temple will last for many years. Does it make sense to restore? As if, and this question has been raised many times. But the project needs millions of hryvnias. And is it worth it at all? The church on the water near Rzhyshchev was restored, but it lost its magnetism. What to do with this church? The most appropriate - probably canned. Although this requires large funds, which never are and never will be.
I always advise everyone to visit Tsibli and this is a wonderful panoramic place on the Dnieper. You will not see such a foreshortening and a temple on the shore of the big water anywhere else in Ukraine.
The Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah is a symbol of the lost. Flooded villages, life, culture of entire villages. The last witness was embalmed by the wind and bird droppings on the edge of the temple (no, not cement). And it's getting harder to get to it every year.
Go, see you off. She's really worth it. And you will be lucky to find her still alive
Extraordinary landscape !!!
Above the flooded ancient Cossack village, of which only the ruins of the Church of St. Elijah remain, is an observation deck.
Today, many people talk about patriotism, but still do not know what the national idea is. The leader of the Ukrainian nation, Taras Shevchenko, best conveyed this concept in his works.
Today, many of those who consider themselves patriots quote Taras Hryhorovych, but not everyone knows that most of the most famous quotes were born right here in the flooded village of Vyunishchi, 5 kilometers from the observation deck. These places were the source of Kobzar's inspiration ... Few people know that from these places Shevchenko sailed on an oak to Prokhorivka, behind Kaniv, on the left bank of the Dnieper. It is rumored that with the help of a special device from the observation deck you can even see the monument to Taras, which stands on his grave. Probably everyone who considers himself a Ukrainian should visit here at least once.
But these places are rich not only in the footsteps of Shevchenko. Human life has been raging here for thousands of years. On the left side of the observation deck was the ancient Russian settlement "Tsybli-uzviz", on the right side - Trypillya settlement, and on the other side of the Dnieper the whole culture of Zarubynets was found. Here, nearby, the famous Cossack Trakhtemirov. Some scientists and nature lovers say that a halo of sacredness hovers over these places. On both sides of the Dnieper were the chronicle cities-fortresses of the Pereyaslav land - Zarub and Ustya, and between them perhaps the most famous ford across the river - Zarubenetsky. Sometimes it was no more than the waist depth of the average person.
Observation deck in the village of Tsibli is also one of the main locations for kitesurfing in Ukraine and that's not all ...
The church was built in 1861. It is a pity that such monuments are not restored.
An interesting place in terms of history. But unfortunately, you can get to the church so that you can see it closer only in the summertime ford or on a floating craft. Very beautiful landscape opens from the top of the road from the hill. The same cemetery with interesting tombs of the late 19th century
Elias Church - a monument of architecture of the early twentieth century. The ruins of the temple are located on the picturesque bank of the Kaniv Reservoir in the village of Tsibli.
