Cathedral of Elevation of the Cross

The main cathedral of the monastery began to be built 50 years after the founding in 1650 of a male (now female) monastery in honor of the Exaltation of the Honest and Life-giving Christ. It was built mainly at the expense of Vasily Kochubey, and then his son for a very long time. The cathedral was consecrated only in 1756. The church was built in the style of the very popular Ukrainian Baroque in those years. During its not so long history, the cathedral underwent several reconstructions, was closed twice (in 1923 and 1960) and was significantly damaged during the battles for the liberation of Poltava in 1943.
