Church-monument-memorial. The church was built according to the decree of Peter 1. The author of the project is Joseph Ivanovich Charlemagne. The church was founded on the anniversary of the Battle of Poltava on June 27, 1852. It was built at the expense of the Chernigov landowner I. S. Sudienko, bequeathed 100 thousand rubles to perpetuate the Battle of Poltava. It was consecrated on July 15, 1856 in honor of St. Sampson the Stranger, whose memory falls on the day of the battle. It was reconstructed in 1895 by the architect N. Nikonov, re-consecrated by Bishop of Poltava Illarion on October 1, 1895.
