Cathedral Makar Kanevsky

It was built in 1901-1903 in the suburb of Kobyshchany for the funds commanded by merchant LV Kolesnikov. Consecrated in 1904 in honor of the Reverend Martyr Macarius Kanevsky, Archimandrite Ovrutsky, Pereyaslav the Wonderworker, and the section on the right - in the name of the Prophet Elijah. The church is brick, one-story, baptized in plan. The north and south arms and aspid are gnarly, with small volumes embedded in the corners. The central quadruple is topped with a light octal tent. On the west side it is slammed with a tent bell tower. Since 1937, the Makariev Church has been closed. In 1941 it resumed its activities. After the destruction of the Transfiguration Church in 1962, it became the cathedral church of the city and at the same time the chair of the consecrated bishops of the Poltava Diocese. In the interior are preserved paintings of the early twentieth century, the icon of Our Lady of Gorban (1786). In 1966-1967 and 1986-1987, the interior was renovated. For each of the Orthodox people, this is a special place, for various reasons. In the cathedral there is one of the Poltava shrines the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Gorbanev and the ancient icon of St. Nicholas. Services are held every day at 8:00 and 17:00, Sunday morning at 7:00 and 9:00. Quiet, calm, well-groomed territory where the cathedral is located in the very center, the office is located to the left of the main entrance (in a separate room) there are Sunday school classes, tables and benches for meals, and also a playground are arranged in the depth on the left side, further down the path are the women's and men's restrooms.
