Voznesensʹka Tserkva

In 1762, a one-domed Ascension Church of the tetrakhon plan was built at the expense of Poltava Colonel I. Chernyak on the outskirts of Pushkarivka. The exterior of this church is a model of the transition from Baroque to classic. The central bath, once covered by a hemispherical vault with a tiered top, rests on barely arched elastic arches emerging from massive pylons into the adjacent locations of the exedra with triangular spherical sails. The exeders have hemispherical arches, the plane of the walls being dissected by twin pilasters, which was completed by a decoupled cornice. The monument is very damaged: collapsed vaults, tarnished plaster, broken courtyards and window slopes, destroyed decor, damaged brickwork. The Ascension Church - a unique monument of monumental stone architecture of the eighteenth century, belongs to the second (late) stage of development of Ukrainian Revival architecture. It is the only one in Poltava region of the classic free tower tetrakh (without the central quadruple highlighted). According to some reports, in the fence of the Ascension Church is buried Motry Kochubeyevna, daughter of the Chief Justice Vasily Kochubey and beloved of Hetman Ivan Mazepa. It was where the Cossack army reserve was located around the Mazepa tent during the Battle of Poltava. Today the church is located on the territory of the former suburb of Pushkarevka, not far from the residential area of ​​Polovka.
