The first association of the German national-cultural minority in the post-Soviet space was the Wiedergeburd (Renaissance) society. Believers of the Lutheran faith from the Odessa branch of society on October 16, 1990 officially registered with the government bodies the Evangelical Lutheran community of Odessa, which became the first community in Ukraine, re-created after the destruction of the Lutheran Church in the Soviet period. At first, the lack of spiritual guidance and meeting facilities for the community was particularly alarming. Therefore, it was decided to send November 17, 1990 to Riga, where the seminary of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of the USSR and the Bishop Harold Kalnins, one of the organizers of the German society and the Lutheran community Yuri Schaefer / was located at that time. The announcement of the appearance of Lutheran communities in Ukraine made a great impression on the Bishop. Yuri Sheffer returned to Odessa with the blessing of the Bishop for the return of the church and with several boxes of songbooks and Bibles in Russian and German. Shortly after this, the community began to visit the students of the Riga Theological Seminar, which lasted until they were appointed to Odessa after the end of the Riga Seminar by Pastor Viktor Graefenstein. Due to the lack of a permanent meeting place, pending the decision to return the church premises, the community gathered in the wintertime somewhere: either in the apartment of Tamara Kudrina / Tamara Kudrina, in the basement of the Student Palace, or in schools; and in the spring-autumn period - from March to October - for several years the community celebrated its Sunday worship services in the open air within the walls of a burnt church. Miraculously, rains and bad weather during divine services throughout the years bypassed the meetings of this small church community. Through the efforts of members of the community, work was carried out in the church on garbage removal, installing doors with locks and laying openings on the 1st floor, benches, a temporary altar with a crucifix and an artistic image of Jesus behind the altar were made, donations were regularly collected for the upcoming restoration of the church from members and community guests

Architectural monument of Odessa. Holidays and concerts to which everyone is invited. Friendly and friendly atmosphere. A place you always want to return to.

Were with friends at a concert of organ music. I liked the concert, but it’s very difficult to sit on wooden benches for 2 hours.

I go to another church, but I really like this one. Especially the liturgy.
