A real gem of Podil. Very underestimated.

Holy Cross Church on Podil, on Vozdvizhenka. A wonderful spiritual and cultural place. The painting of the temple is similar to the painting of the Vladimir Cathedral. Large windows add magic. There are two relics in the temple. One - with the relics of St. Luke. The second contains up to 20 particles of relics, incl. St. Nicholas of Mirliki and St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky, a piece of the belt of the Virgin and the Life-giving Cross. The servants of the temple are kind and welcoming. I highly recommend visiting.

Holy Cross Church. Built in 1811-1841 in the style of classicism. Architect - Andrey Melensky. Located in Podil (Vozdvizhenskaya st., 1). It was erected on the site of the wooden church of the same name, built in 1748 at the expense of the residents of Kozhemyak, whose craft workshop was part of the Kiev Brotherhood. The Church of the Cross is considered one of the Bulgakov places in Kiev: on May 18, 1891 in the lower Mikhailovsky limit of the church, the future famous writer Mikhail Bulgakov was baptized according to the Orthodox rite as priest Fr. M. Butovsky. The name was given in honor of the guardian of the city of Kiev, Archangel Michael. The ordinary professor of the KDA Nikolai Ivanovich Petrov and Bulgakov's grandmother on the paternal side, Olympiada Fedorovna Bulgakova, became godparents. The church was painted by the Ukrainian artist and parishioner Grigory Svetlitsky (1872-1948). He was baptized in this temple in infancy, and later got married here. For the restoration of St. Isaac's Cathedral, Emperor Nicholas II granted the artist a title of nobility, and in Soviet times he became one of the first folk artists of the Ukrainian SSR.

Holy Cross Church in Podil is a very interesting and remarkable temple of the UOC-MP. It was founded in the 18th century, located on the western side of the Castle Hill. At first it was wooden, then a stone one was rebuilt, with an extension in the form of a chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church looks old, very valuable from the point of view of a historical monument. An interesting fact is that Mikhail Bulgakov was baptized here.

Well, this is generally my special love! Here, at the age of 19 (that is, 30 years ago!) I received Orthodox baptism of my own free will. Father was then very ascetic, which won me over forever! A prayerful place, here I feel God's Grace and complete peace!
