The temple was built on the site of older buildings of the monastery, where in the 1770s a young pilgrim from Kursk Prokhorov Moshnin, one of the monks (Dosipheus), giving instructions, sent to the edge, where the "Sarov Desert" was located. After taking the vows, the young man took the name Seraphim and for his exploits eventually became one of the most revered Orthodox saints in Russia - the Reverend Seraphim of Sarov.

Remake on the site of the old cells. A pilgrim from Kursk -Prokhor Isidorovich Moshnin (Mashnin) stayed there. Here in 1776, the old woman Dosifei blessed and showed him the place where he was to accept obedience and tonsure - the Sarov Desert Monastery in the Tambov province. In 1786 he adopted monasticism (Little Schema) and the name Seraphim. After that, they began to know him under the name Seraphim of Sarov.
