Chuchyn is an ancient Russian city in the Kyivan principality, mentioned in the chronicle in 1110 in connection with the Polovtsian raid. Chuchyn was one of the fortified settlements that protected the right bank of the Dnieper from Polovtsian invasions. It is identified with the settlement near the village of Baliko-Schuchynka, Kyiv region, located on the right bank of the Dnieper. Excavations under the direction of VY Dovzhenko were carried out here in 1961-1962. The settlement is located on a hill inaccessible in ancient times at 70 m above the level of the Dnieper, from it you can see a long distance of the surroundings, you can see the neighboring ancient settlements on the banks of the Dnieper - Ivan (upstream near Rzhyshchev) - and Khodorivske (downstream near the village of Khodoriv). The settlement is protected on all sides by steep slopes. Only in one place on the west side it leads to a gentle slope, which served as the entrance to the city. The settlement with an area of 6 hectares consisted of a baby on a hill (2.3 hectares) and a surrounding hail (3.7 hectares). The baby was surrounded by a shaft up to 3.5 m high, the surrounding hail - a shaft 2.5 m high. Archaeologists have found the remains of a garden shaft, 11 inhabitants (6 - on the child, 5 - in the surrounding hail, semi-dugouts and ground dwellings, similar to each other - close in shape to an area of 20m² on average), agricultural and handicraft tools (ploughshare, scythe, sickle, part of a scythe, spring scissors, axes, planes, chisel, spoon, many knives, fishing hooks) and weapons (battle ax, butt, arrowheads). These findings allow us to conclude that the population of Chuchin was engaged in agriculture, handicrafts and military affairs. A special find is a bronze stamped plate with the image of St. Basil (9.5 x 6 cm) - probably an overlay of a religious book. According to archeological data, the existence of the settlement dates back to the XI-XII centuries. Chuchyn died as a result of an Mongol attack in 1223 after the battle of Kalka or in 1239-1240 during the Batu invasion. A memorial plaque and a monument to Boyan, the character of "Words about Igor's Regiment", have been erected on the site of the settlement.

This settlement, as they say, is GOOD, but LITTLE! Monument to the hero "Word About Igor's Regiment" Bayan. And part of the earthen wall in the cut with a plate. That's the whole city ... Located on the territory of the memorial "Bukrin Bridgehead"

Historic site. An excellent asphalt road leads to the place, which winds up like a serpentine road.

Look. Explore. Take care.

If the slopes of the trees were cleared a little, the incredible panorama of the Dnieper would be opened.
