Church of St. arch. Michael. 1898. (UGCC) The first mention of the village, which is now part of Mukachevo, dates back to 1389. In the XIV century. Prince F. Koryatovych built a nunnery in Pidhoryany, on Sorocha Hill, the remains of which can be seen to this day. In 1657 the village and the wooden church were destroyed by the troops of the Polish prince Lubomyrsky. At the beginning of the XVIII century. there was no church in Pidhoryany and believers went to church in the neighboring villages of Kushtanovytsia and Bukovynka. A record from 1704 has been preserved that a church was built on the site of Vasyl Yurkanych without the landlord's permission. In 1728, the village became the property of the family of Count FL Schönborn, who in the same year began construction of a wooden church and other buildings. In 1733 the priest Danylo Pidhoryansky and the wooden church of St. Michael with a tower and two bells. In 1798 it was a new wooden church. On June 2, 1868, near the beautiful old wooden church, Rev. Viktor Lyakhovych dedicated a cornerstone to the construction of a brick church of the central-dome type, in which Greek Catholics still pray. The church was built with the help of Count Schönborn under the priests Oleksiy Hrybovsky and Emanuel Hudaki. According to locals, the land for the church was given by Ivan Buchyna. The builders were Italian craftsmen, several of whom, including Pezzano, remained in Pidhoryany. Dmytro Stegur is mentioned among local builders. The decoration was made by the famous artist I. Roshkovych, and the iconostasis and altars were carved by local masters (it is assumed that among them could be a master named Makhlynets). The church was completely finished in 1898, although it is said that the date above the entrance was 1905. One of the church books contains a record of the meeting on May 6, 1927, at which it was decided to build a new bell tower because the church tower could not withstand the weight of bells. The plot for the bell tower was going to be exchanged for Stefan Malyarchyk, and the construction plan was executed by the Mukachevo builder Vaclav Novi, but the bell tower was never built. In 1936, the tinsmith Kramer closed the dome, and masters Kerechan and Kugl repaired the church. During the Soviet period, Roshkovich's mural was unfortunately repainted by O. Selivanov. Ornamental motifs on the arches of the vaults obviously remained original. At the end of the 19th century. in front of the temple stood a tastefully made wooden chapel of a peculiar shape, the image of which was distributed in numerous drawings, and in front of it unfolded a real exhibition of sacred images and crucifixes. In 1949, the local parish priest Georgy Roman was sentenced by the Soviet authorities to 25 years of hard labor.

The magnificent temple of the Greek Catholic community in the region of Podgoryano in Mukachevo. The church with the history. The temple is brought to an exemplary position. The area is well-equipped. I recommend it for visiting the residents and guests of the city.
