Ancient building: tomb of the Bilevych family

The pyramid at Commandant is more than 130 years old. Now it is a church-tomb with a height of 15 meters. Under the pyramid - a complex system of underground passages and two chambers lined with brick. They built it in Commandant for a long time, 13 years. Granite blocks were connected using a special method: animal’s blood and egg protein were added to the lime-sand solution instead of water. Alexander Bilevich, an officer of the Russian fleet, called the pyramid the Sophia Church, after his wife, who was buried here in an underground crypt (1877). The officer himself died at the beginning of the 20th century. But not for long spouses rested in peace. Local residents in search of treasure unearthed crypts and destroyed the iconostasis. In Soviet times, pesticides were stored in underground passages of the pyramid. Old-timers of the village say that people who in the 80s dismantled the church extension, have already paid for it. One committed suicide, while others died early — they did not even live for 40 years. Now the pyramid-tomb in Commandant retooled under the church. The first floor (lower chamber) is occupied directly by the temple, the second (upper chamber) is the bell tower. People come here for healing. To form the room cleared and filled the body with energy, you need to stand in the center of the pyramid for 10-15 minutes. You can get to Komendantovka by bus "Kremenchug-Kobeljaki" or by your own transport. The village is located 57 km from the district center.

Fate threw Alexander Bilevich into Egypt, where he was struck by the monuments of ancient civilization. Returning, he built his own pyramid-burial ground in his estate. The construction of the pyramid lasted 13 years. As a building material used granite blocks from the local quarry, which were pulled upwards on wooden troughs, and the limestone solution was made on the blood of freshly slaughtered cattle with the addition of egg whites. Three burial chambers were connected by underground passages. He crowned the building of the Orthodox Cross. In the pyramid Bilevich buried his wife, and many years later he found rest there. According to other sources, in 1864, the wife of Alexander Bilevich, Sophia, died prematurely, and he, in her honor, decided to build the St. Sophia Church in the form of a three-tier pyramid. In the first tier, where the iconostasis and the altar were, worship was held. The 15-meter structure (the second tallest among the three European pyramids - the tallest is the Pyramid of Guy Cestius in Rome - 36.4m) topped the cross. After the tumultuous events of 1917, the church was looted, and the admixtures adapted to the composition of fertilizers. It was not until the late 20th century that attempts were made to revive the temple pyramid, to restore worship, but it was not possible to finish it.
