Beautiful building

The church looks quite gothic in a place far removed from the people.

Church of John the Theologian - the temple is located on the high hill on the left bank of the river Tiligul in the village. Cover. It has 11 domes. Local historians say that this temple is an exact replica of the temple of the city of Veden in Austria. A local landowner, Mr. Kondratsky, a trained civil engineer, having visited this country at the end of the 19th century, saw the unearthly beauty of the temple and decided to build an exact copy of it on his lands. For heating the temple in the basement, a special heating system was built to keep the heat even under the central dome, whose height is 17.5 meters. The best masters worked on the interior decoration of the church. After the completion of all construction work in the early XX century, the majestic village temple was solemnly consecrated in honor of St. John the Theologian. After the revolution of 1917, the temple survived difficult times - it was plundered, bronze bells and crosses were removed, and doors were hammered. For several decades the temple stood empty. Atheists have come up with plans to destroy the architectural marvel. The temple was saved by the fact that it began to be used as a storage for mineral fertilizers, and then in its defense was made by the writer Stepan Oliynyk, a native of the neighboring village of Levadivka, who wanted to make a village museum in the temple and the appropriate sign was nailed to the door of the temple. In the early 1990s, the temple was returned to the religious community. Now it is a part of many tourist routes of Odessa region.
