A magnificent temple, built in the style of the Cossack Baroque, the splendor of the domes of which can be admired by visiting the National Botanical Garden. M. Grishka. This is one of the three main and most beautiful buildings located on the territory of Vydubychi monastery. St. George's Cathedral can be called the most harmonious and thoughtful architectural monument of that time. In the days of Kievan Rus, the monastery was a prominent cult center. The first brick church on its territory was St. Michael's Cathedral in 1070. During the national revival of the Hetmanate, Colonel M. Myklashevsky became a patron and patron of the monastery. St. George's Monastery and refectory were built at his expense. During the same period, with the support of Hetman Daniel the Apostle, a three-tiered bell tower was built. The solemn laying of the cathedral began in 1696, and construction lasted 5 years. In 1701 it was consecrated by Metropolitan Varlaam Yasinsky. During the Soviet era, the cathedral was closed and church utensils were confiscated. In 1936, a five-tiered iconostasis was burned at the stake by Komsomol members. A fire in 1967 destroyed the interior with frescoes. At the same time, the unique old prints of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR burned down. After that, the cathedral was restored according to the project of architect Bykova. It was decided to transfer the rebuilt church to the architectural complex of the Vydubychi monastery of the Institute of Archeology of Ukraine. Since then, the cathedral has become a repository. In 1998 the first Sunday service took place in the monastery. The architecture of the cathedral. The composition of the cathedral is a classic type of five-chamber Ukrainian church. The slender proportions of the building and the skillfully executed plasticity of the facades give the monument a picturesque artistic expression. When constructing the faces of the volumes, a unique technique of plastic modeling of an architectural detail was used - each face is outlined by too loose angular pilasters, in the capitals of which the volutes are curved in the opposite direction. Stucco cartouches are placed on the four end faces. Column platbands and pediments of portals with windows, rosettes, heads of angels, triangular sandrikas complement the plastic decor of the cathedral. The decor is influenced by Russian architecture of the late 17th century. Inside St. George's Cathedral, the ark with fragments of the relics of St. George, the great martyr Barbara and other saints, as well as the silver icon of St. George the Victorious are of special value.
