Great place for hiking! We saw tons of wildflowers and the waterfalls are lovely. Trails can be very challenging and steep so come prepared. Some of the hiking trails were marked as not for riding but horses had obviously been on them...not very pleasant to have the trails torn up. Otherwise, the park seemed well-maintained.nnIf you go during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, please respect social distancing and give people space on the trails. It's the right thing to do.

Salamonie State Forest is a bird watcher’s paradise. The highlights from today were 4 Blue Heron (at one time!) and a juvenile bald eagle. There were nice campgrounds, hiking and horse trails in the area. There is a large swimming beach for summer, and it is less than two hours drive from Indianapolis. I definitely recommend Salamonie State Forest.
