Friendly, helpful staff and very clean facility. Great place to work out!

I like the one in Laporte best, they have better weights, also I was told I had to leave and change my shorts to get in the pool. The life guard had on the same kind of shorts I had, in mid winter while I had my daughter with me a very big inconvenience.

Very friendly atmosphere, excellent workout equipment, pool is a great place to donmany different exercises to include aerobicnclasses, lifeguards always on duty.

They are very unorganized, last time I went with my little cousin the lady life guard had an attitude.

This place used to be great. Such an asset to our community, they were working on a new facility in New Porte Landing to make it more modern and accessible for all but that has gone down the tubes since Laurie Halaska has taken over and Nick Otis was named president of the board. Kid watch has now been moved from a secure location in the older part of the building to the former member lounge. This is right in the open and very easy for strangers to access. There is only a freaking accordion folding baby gate as a barrier. What if there are too many children in there at one time and a child moves the gate and leaves? We all know that they don't keep enough staff to follow state ratios. They also have closed the outside access to the glass observatory that the parents sat in. We now have to walk into the pool area with our street shoes to watch our kids. That is so unsanitary and breaks many Health Department violations. We also have half as many seats because they decided to put an office in half of the space?? What?? Some lifeguards have also been wearing jeans and cowboy boots on the deck. How are you gonna save my child wearing that? It's like they aren't even training them properly. There is also a rumor going around that their entire staff only has three people CPR certified. That's including the staff at the Childcare Center, a place where they feed the kids two meals and multiple snacks a day. God forbid a child chokes and none of the CPR certified staff is out there. The building is also FILTHY. They have ONE cleaner working there for about four hours a day. Laurie really must not care about Health Codes or the safety of the member and children. A few months ago someone had a seizure while working out on the wellness floor and only received help because a first responder was working out. Laurie fired all of the wellness floor staff that was there during the day. If that first responder wasn't there working out. who knows how long that person would have been lying there. You can barely recognize the staff anymore because there is so much turn around even with people who had been there for years. I know that the board gets so many calls about these issues, yet there has been NO change. Miss Laurie has worked at how many Y's before? At first I thought this was going to be good fort our Y because of her experience but it has to be because she is AWFUL at running places. Word on the street is that she got fired from her previous Y because she held a huge raffle without getting a gambling license. Jeez. Shame that is place is going to hell in a handbasket. It wasn't perfect by any means when the previous Executive Director was there, but it was a hell of a lot better. You could also tell that Cindy at least CARED for La Porte and the members just by the cleanliness of the place alone.
