When I arrived into Portland in 1991 from the east coast, I had only recently concluded seven volatile years in the lively world of advertising. There I had acquired many things, including the realization --- after enough consecutive twelve-hour days and sixty-hour weeks to run Godzilla ragged --- that I wasn't superhuman, after all.nnDuring those tumultuous times, among other things, I had been unable to keep on top of my taxes. In decided desperation, I had sought professional help. Those 'professionals' I could afford to engage turned out to be insufficiently professional to do the job at all well. I was soon back where I'd started.nnI was still virtually afraid to revisit my tax histories when I found myself, new to Oregon and working at Oregon Health Sciences University, making the acquaintance of a cordial young nurse who told me of the man who had been handling her taxes for years --- one Herman Lindsey.nnI looked Herman up, made an appointment, and was not only pleased to meet him (he is one of the most best-natured, even-tempered individuals i've ever met), but decidedly grateful.nnI did exactly as Herman advised, and within a few weeks' time I was 'back on track' with my tax records for the first time in years.nnI've been grateful ever since --- as has my wife --- for Herman's expertise and actual friendship. He's always been a man who cares as much about his clients as he does about his work; has always been excellent.nnAfter been twenty-five years, I'd be happy to say to anyone who's interested that Herman --- and his remarkable wife and business partner, Eunice --- have more than measured up to the reputation they had earned with the colleague who'd referred me to them during my fist year in Oregon.
